    Ask whether the job is high-volume and well-defined (e.g. driving 10 screws into a specific laptop case 10,000 times) or an open-ended, human-shaped long-tail task. Volume and specificity point you toward form factor.

    Watch out Defaulting to 'a humanoid can do everything' is the hype-cycle trap — most repetitive work doesn't need a human shape.

    For high-volume, well-defined tasks, build or deploy a dedicated manufacturing robot designed for exactly that action. Kalinowski envisions standard, modifiable 'cabinet-size' automation cells that adapt over time.

To fasten a keyboard into a laptop case thousands of times, Kalinowski argues you don't want a humanoid — you want a dedicated manufacturing robot designed specifically to drive those ten screws for that laptop, run at high volume.

A purpose-built cell does the repetitive task more reliably and cheaply than a general humanoid attempting it.

Near-human-free advanced manufacturing lines

At top-tier tier-one suppliers, the printed-circuit-board line runs essentially without people — raw boards are reflowed and inspected automatically — and mechanical assembly lines that once had 200 people may now have 10.

Because the most advanced lines already moved past human labor, the need is more dedicated robots, not humanoids to stand in for people.
